Villa Carpentier

Villa Carpentier is an Art Nouveau summer residence in Ronse, Belgium, designed by Victor Horta for textile industrialist Valère Carpentier, with construction beginning in 1899 and finishing in 1903. Of the 30 or so magnificent private houses designed by Victor Horta, only half a dozen were country houses. Villa Carpentier is undoubtedly the prettiest, largest and most successful of these mansions. The house carries over the best of Horta’s style and was one of the last projects of his Art Nouveau period. The project encompassed the architecture, interior design, and landscaping of the estate. The villa, now protected as a monument, is privately owned and can be visited by groups with a guide.

Horta often incorporated natural elements into his designs to blur the lines between the inside and outside. In the case of the Villa Carpentier, the gardens are an extension of this ideal, creating a seamless transition from the interior living spaces to the surrounding natural world.
